Ejector Wire

Page 1 of 2Next

Ejector Wire hanging rounds.

When the round is coming out of station 5, the Ejector Wire is causing the round not to be ejected smoothly. When this happens, the shell plate will jump causing powder to be splashed from the filled cases everywhere. I've looked at the Ejector Wire and compared it to one in my spare parts pack and they appear to be exact, not bent and smooth. No reason for the round to hang. I can feel its hanging in the downward movement of the handle and back off a second, then proceed. The round will normally come out. Other times, I must push the round out by hand.

Any ideas.... I'm open for help.

what caliber?

I was running 9mm this past weekend, but in the past I've had problems with 40, 45 and 223.

Is there a short bend in the top of the ejector wire just before where it bends down to go into the hole in the platform? If not, phone or e-mail for a replacement ejector wire.

I'll need to check to be sure.

I'm having a similar problem.  I get ejector problems occasionally - sometime I can run 10-12 rounds through and every one ejects smoothly.  Then all of a sudden I get 2-3 in a row that hang up.  I called Dillon and they said take a file and trim off the edges of the shell plate.  That didn't fix the problem.  So I installed a new ejector wire and it still does the same thing.  I hoping for some insight here as well.

A drop of Hornady One-Shot on the wire makes all the difference.  Allow the One-Shot to flow around the slots for the case in the shell plate.

I see this problem when teaching my friends how to reload on my loader.  However I seldom have a problem.  I diagnosed the problem to the speed of the handle on the up stroke.  I may sound strange but slowing down will actually speed up the reloading speed and improve the quality of reloads (no powder bouncing out of the case).  On the upstroke (and down stroke) a slow, smooth and steady movement produces best results.

I have the same problem sopradically when loading 45 ACP, and on every round loading 380 ACP.  For the 380, I have to manually push each round out of station 5 with my finger.  I have replaced the ejector wire with one from my spare parts kit despite them being identical - they both have the small bend near the end where it inserts into the platform.  I checked the shell plate for any burs or sharp edges and there are none.  I made sure the wire was not pinched beneath the shellplate bolt, and even vacumed out the hole in the platform to be sure that there wasn't anything in the hole causing the ejector wire to be be too high.  On the 380 ACP rounds, the ejector wire contacts the case about 1/8" from the primer end.  I'm at wits end...

Dillon - help us out please?

For .380, be sure the shellplate amd locator pins are all #3.  How old is the shellplate? It sounds like it is in need of a bit of polishing on the trailing edge of the shell slot.

(Dillon stated) Is there a short bend in the top of the ejector wire just before where it bends down to go into the hole in the platform?

Yes there sure is. Should I put a dab of grease on the wire ?
