2 650XL questions
Quote from Reloader on March 18, 2018, 11:13 pmI have loaded about 12000 rounds 9mm on the 650 but had 2 questions:
1) Is there a way to adjust the primer arm ? About 1-2 rounds/100 have the primer not quite fully seated. I ream the primer pocket on each case and try to get full arm extension to make sure the primer is fully seated.
2) About 1 rounds/100 have the case feeder sending the case upside down. Is there an adjustment I can do to lessen this ?
thanks,
Tom

Quote from Reloader on March 19, 2018, 10:42 pmI caught my press moving slightly when seating a primer. I had used screws in the rear and bolts in the front to mount it. The screws backed out slightly and I saw it move. I had to do some extra work to get bolts in the rear holes, but now the press is solid. No more occasional primer not fully seated. I do not know if this will help you.

Quote from Reloader on March 22, 2018, 5:15 amI was getting more like 8-10 high primers per hundred, and the advice I got from Dillon customer service was to tighten down on the shell plate. That helped, but the cure was to switch from Fed small pistol primers to Winchesters. Now, no more sideways primers and upside down primers, and maybe 1 high primer in 300.

Quote from Reloader on March 22, 2018, 7:27 pmOn upside-down cases, either there is too much brass in the bowl, or the bowl is swaying and flipping cases around. We suggest using a 1lb coffee can or the plastic cartridge catch bin as a volume of brass to use.

Quote from Reloader on March 23, 2018, 3:14 pmTom, See figure 158 on page 33 of the xl 650 manual. It will show where the shellplate setscrew is located. Use a 1/8" allen wrench to loosen the set screw (just a 1/2 turn). Using a 1/4” Allen wrench run the shellplate bolt down until it stops then loosen it slightly. Loosen it just enough to allow the shellplate to index freely. See figure 174 and text. Snug the set screw. /LB
PS: Manual is available for download from Dillon website if needed. I recommend a reading of the manual. Lots of helpful items about adjustments, caliber changes, etc.
