223 Case Gage

I have a couple of questions that relate to new Lack City Brass for loading...In looking back into my PDF file for my 650. It states that a Case Gage is needed to properly adjust the resizing die..Ok, I fellow along with this statement..the "kink" in my situation,,is that one of my AR 15's is chambered for 5.56..The Case Gage offered through Dillon is stated to be .223..It is my belief that there is an ever so slight difference between a .223 and a 5.56 chamber...Using a conservative setting for the resizing die setting in the # one station of my press,,,By conservative setting,,,I mean that the resizing die is a couple of thousandths from fully resting on the shell plate...running a dozen pieces of new brass,, The new brass slides effortlessly...I realize that this new brass will be "fire formed" to the chamber once they have been fired once..In a group check for the length of this brass,,they are running an average of 1.755,,so some case length trimming to 1.750 is in order...Am I missing something in the grater scheme of things concerning this new Lake City Brass...Many thanks for the reply when given..JoeA

The chamber differences aren't so much in the case dimensions as much as in the throat dimension. Set your size die to allow sized cases to drop in flush with the bottom step on the gage.

There is no difference in case dimensions between 5.56 and .223. The difference is in the chambers. The loaded rounds are identical. There are drawings in reloading guides that prove this. Fire, size and trim ALL brass to 1.750"
