223 expander ball

I have a Dillon .223 carbide sizing die that has seen a lot of rounds over the years.  But I'm starting to see bullet jacket shavings at the seating station.

I pulled the die apart and it looks like the expander ball is worn out... completely smooth on one side.  It seems I'm seating bullets in tight case necks.  Can the expander part of the die be purchased separately?  A whole new die is quite costly, and the die itself and decaper are still fine.  In fact, I still have the original back up decapper that came with the set of dies.

Thanks.

I would be extremely suprised if the expander ball is worn out. It is carbide, and good for probably 750,000 + cases. try cleaning it off, then see if the upper decap bolt and decap pin are straight or slightly bent. Separate them then roll them, checking for a wobble.

You're correct.  The expander ball isn't worn out.  IT'S GONE!!!

It seems about a year back, my decap pin had backed off of the shaft.  I had to cut the brass apart to get it out of the case that it had fallen in.

Since I was so caught up in getting the decapper out of the brass, I never thought about the expander ball.  It must have been stuck in the case neck of the cut away piece of brass.  I was just happy that the decapper was retrieved and that it hadn't broken off.... just backed off.

I ended up threading the decap pin back in without realizing I didn't have the expander ball.  I woke up at 5:00am this morning when the light bulb went on in my head.

As I read this my "Light Bulb" went on also. I took my die apart only to notice that my expander ball has a part missing. I have 2 other 223 dies and noticed they are also missing from them. Now are these ball available?
