.223 loading trouble
Quote from Reloader on January 25, 2013, 5:46 amI am attempting to load .223 for the first time on my 550B with Dillon Die set. Everything was going good untill I attemtped to place the bullet in the brass on station 3. The brass hole is too small for the bullet to set into it. The bullet just falles off the brass. What do I need to do? I have adjusted station 2 100 times with no change. What do I need to adjust to get a small bell or wider opening? I have not had this problem when loading 9 and 45. Thank you very much for your help!

Quote from Reloader on January 25, 2013, 5:35 pmYou do not flare case mouths on bottleneck rifle cartridges. If you are loading flat base bullets then you need to use a case mouth chamfering tool to bevel the case mouth so bullets seat easier. You still have to hold the bullet in place with your fingers until the bullet enters the seating die.

I have not used mine yet, put I have heard they work great for holding the bullet.
I am waiting on my super swage before I can load my 223.

Quote from Reloader on February 2, 2013, 1:35 amI had a similar problem when I started reloading 30-06. I installed a Dillon die set that I had gotten from an estate sale. I found that if I held the bullet in place, it would seat into the case. However, I also had trouble when I tried to trim the brass because the pilot on my trim-pro would not fit into the opening in the brass. I finally decided to take the sizing die apart, and low-and-behold, there was no expander ball in it. I ordered a new expander ball from Dillon and case solved. I also learned the lesson that when you buy used equipment, you must inspect every aspect of it to make sure all is right.
I don't know if this is your problem, but you might want to check it out.
