223 processing die setup suggestions
Quote from Jeepman007 on August 13, 2025, 2:23 pmUsing Super 1050 to process 223.
Currently have it setup: 1-decap, 2-swage, 3-empty, 4-FL resize, 5-empty, 6-RL-1500 trim, 7-empty
The RL-1500 die isn't providing a consistent full length resize which is why I resize prior. I understand not all brass resizes well, but its all brass types.
Is there a better setup to get consistent resize?
Thank you

Quote from The Human Manual on August 13, 2025, 3:37 pmDid you use a headspace case gage to adjust the trim die? Used unsized brass to check this.
Push down on the edge of the shellplate at station 7. If it feels springy, then the shellplate lock ring needs to be slightly tighter.
It may sound silly, but be sure the toolhead bolt is tight ( don't ask why I know this)

When you say use a headspace case gage can you point me to a video or directions on how to perform it to set the trim die? I just used a piece of brass and kept adjusting until I got it set to correct length.
Just checked the shell plate, there was a little spring to it, tightened a bit and shell plate indexes properly.
Tool head it tight 🙂
Thank you again for the help

Quote from The Human Manual on August 13, 2025, 4:02 pmUse the headspace case gage to adjust the trim die body first. Then adjust the height of the trimmer motor to trim cases to the correct length. Go to the 4:15 mark on this video for instructions on using the headspace gage to adjust the die. You adjust the trim die height exactly as you would a full length size die.
