.30 cal carbine

I just got an SDB and have begun loading .45 and 9MM. I have read the posts concerning the SDB and .30 cal carbine and saw a response that the case has a slight taper and would be hard for the SDB to load "over time".

I have been loading and shooting long range for years. As also previously noted, with the advent of the CMP selling many carbines, the round has become the 22nd most reloaded cartridge. A single stage press, a 550b or xl650 can load it. Then again, any press EXCEPT the SDB can load it.

Can someone explain why the slight taper would prevent what is basically a pistol straight cartridge from being loaded in an SDB? And if it's not so difficult wouldn't it be an excellent addition to the SDB stable of dies? It would seem that the proprietary dies would both help folks who currently want to reload the .30 cal carbine and further increase the customer base of those who may want to in the future. Someone who is looking at progressive presses may turn to the better Dillon loaders (my opinion) if a lower priced entry press is available in this cartridge. For someone who is beginning to reload there are many brands to chose from. Personally, I push them toward the Dillon brand.

There are many people that I know of who shoot the .30 cal carbine cartridge. If it's possible a 2nd review of this honorable cartridge for the SDB would be greatly appreciated. If a poll helps to get some feedback from other folks who feel the same I'll add it.

Thanks

We have tested it, and were not satisfied with the short life of shellplates, and difficulty to consistantly resize brass. The design of the toolhead and friction plate do not hold consistant dimension on a case with this much taper. This machine is designed solely for straightwall cases.

Re: 30 Carbine. If you full length-size / deprime on a Redding Boss manual press, will the rest of the process work on an SDB? Assuming the 550B Conversion Kit fits.
