30 Luger

I'm trying to reload 30 Luger on my XL650, I'm using the 30 Luger/30 Mauser conversion kit # 21107. Reloading 30 Mauser is working fine, but I am unable to adjust the powder die/funnel down far enough to the point where I get any type of case mouth bell on Luger brass. The powder funnel is down touching the shellplate at the full upstroke, but the powder funnel doesn't enter the case neck far enough to create a bell.

Any ideas on why I can't adjust the dies to get a bell? It's as if I need a shorter powder die or longer powder funnel so I can get a proper case mouth bell on the 30 Luger. My next step will be to shorten a standard powder die to give me more "adjustment" room to allow the powder funnel to fully enter the case and bell the mouth.

Don't shorten the powder die, as there is only a thin lip there to prevent the funnel from falling out the bottom. The conversion kit should have included a "C" funnel. If this is too short, then go with an "S" funnel, a longer one.

Thanks, yes, the 30 Luger/30 Mauser kit contains the "C" funnel. Fortunately I also reload 32SWL so have that conversion kit available and that contains an "S" funnel. Swapped the funnels and now the 30 Luger bells as expected. It would seem therefore that there needs to be two powder funnels provided with a kit marked 30 Luger/30 Mauser as unless I'm doing something wrong, there doesn't seem to be any way a "C" funnel will bell a 30 Luger case mouth properly.

Did another test and found that only one funnel would be needed. The "S" powder funnel can be adjusted (via the powder die) so that both 30 Luger and 30 Mauser/Tokarev cases can be belled. It looks like the 21107 kit should come with an "S" powder funnel, not a "C" funnel. Just my observation, but I've found no way that I can use the "C" funnel for loading 30 Luger with a standard length powder die.
