300aac problems

Multiple problems. Started with a 650 set up from factory for 223. Ran a thousand or so 223 with few issues. Converting to load 300 blackout. Changed shell feeding insert and sleeve. Installed 30 cal powder drop tube. RCBS sizing and bullet seating die, Lee crimp die.

Problem 1: every 10-12 rounds a case mouth hangs on the powder drop tube tip. This folds a small bit of the mouth over into the case, ruining the case. Chamfering the case mouth is no help. Powder spills as well. H-110 goes everywhere!

Problem 2: Cases are short enough to fall out and tip before the rails of the case slide catch them, causing a jam. Working the handle faster than normal helps, but results in my not feeling problem 1 in time to stop before damaging that case.

Suggestions???

More details. Factory 223 setup with replacement parts: 15186 (Hornet shell feeder adapter) and 13564 "C" powder funnel.

Got pictures...need to figure out how to post them.

Maybe your powder die is a hair to low, try raising it a bit and I use the (A) side or pistol side of the cam and I have my 300 AAC working great.
I had the same problem with the shells, I am using conversion parts from my 223 and 30 Carbine kits for 300AAC with small pistol casefeeder plate.

I suspect that the shellplate bolt might be a bit loose. To test, push down on the edge of the shellplate at station 4. If it feels springy, then snug the shellplate bolt a bit more.
Next, check the contact of the station 2 locator. THe metal finger should be within .002-.004" of touching the case. Refer to figure 194 in the manual for where to make the adjustment to this.

Thanks for the ideas. Too late to test the shellplate bolt...converted to load 40S&W (Dillon factory 40 conversion kit) over the weekend. I was having the same feeding problem though. The case is dropping too early and bouncing...all over the place. I adjusted the timing on the shell feeder to right before the point when it would jam...basically having the case feed arm rotate at the last possible instant. Better but still problematic occasionally.

I can't raise the powder die. I need the flaring, which locks in the adjustment. 30 carbine (flat base) bullets just seat better with a slightly flared case. With boattail bullets I would just go back to the original powder drop tube insert...no flaring required...no problem. Maybe I do that anyway and flare in station 3. The low powder charge (no powder check die) should allow clearance.

Fixed the feeding issue. Newbie mistake. I needed to reverse the case feed actuator ramp to the pistol side. 40 S&W filling ammo cans like water now...
