308 Carbide Trim Die problem
Quote from jpagec7 on January 26, 2024, 9:12 pmSo, I am trying to automate case prep on my XL750. I have dillon 308 size/decap set up on position 1 and cases coming out of it are sizing perfectly according to my Sheridan Engineering case gauge. The trim die in position 4 does not allow the case neck to protrude into the trim opening for neck trimming. As I tried to adjust the die down to allow for this, the shoulder on the case was bumped so far that the case no longer passes the headspace marks on the gauge and still could not get protrusion into the trim opening. Do I have a bad trim die?

Quote from ARMTGuy on January 29, 2024, 9:36 pmUse a lubed, fired case to set the headspace for the trim die. The trim die should at least tough the top of the shellplate , plus or minus a 1/2 turn, when set for minimum headspace. At this point about .070" or more of the case should protrude into the trim window.

Quote from jpagec7 on February 4, 2024, 7:18 pmThanks Gary, got it working perfectly today using your guidance. Backed off the sizing die in station 1 a bit so I get decap and neck truing. Now the trim die does final sizing and trimming. I ran 100 rounds...smooth as butter...and all check perfectly in the gage.
