.338 Lapua Mag

Just purchased the necessaries (Caliber conversion kit, etc) to load .338 Lapua Mag using my 550B. Anyone have any hints, tips or what to watch out fors when loading this cartridge?

Weapon is a Savage 110BA.

I cannot tell you anything yet. All I have done is read. HOWEVER, I have been on Long Range Hunting and Kirby Allen has some specific opinions about it.

His recommendation is to use Norma brass for load development since the Lapua brass is so much stronger it doesn't deform like most of the brass we are accustomed to using.

My Lapua is in a Remington and has an improved chamber.

What dies are you using? I have a set of Redding Competition dies on the way.

I also will be using Redding dies and neck sizing only.

I am about to the same thing with a 550.  Is there anything you can pass on from your experiences.  Any pet loads for the Sav 110 BA...nice choice of guns.

Thanks

I would recomend neck sizing cause its a huge cartridge . i m not sure full resizing would work properly. i have diffrent brands and all are really strong cases .

happy shootin

i use a customized sako hunting rifle with an 30 inch barrel an gain twist (lothar walter barrel) .
this give me high accuracy even at 100 m distance . 5 shot groups make 1to 1,5 cm groups . on top an nightforce nxs scope make it an really outstanding rifle .
