.38 Smith and Wesson
Quote from Reloader on January 25, 2009, 5:22 amHi again, I have just purchased a Police Positive in .38 S&W, obviously I would like to reload on my 550B:-)
I see the adaptor kit for this calibre on the website but no dies!
Which brand is recommended for this combination?
Cheers

Quote from Reloader on January 26, 2009, 5:58 pmThe 38 Super carbide size ide is also dimensionally correct for .38 S&W. Use a 9mm powder funnel, and you will need 38 S&W seat and crimp dies.
I believe RCBS sells their "Cowboy" dies in this caliber.

I ordered everything I needed from Lee Precision and it was here in New Zealand two days later.

is the thread length on your Lee dies long enouph for the Dillon Turret, I was told from customer service that they were not and to buy RCBS Cowboy dies, also I have a Police Positive .38 also dated at 1916. It should have the stamp VP in a tiny triangle on the side of the triger guard or somewhere on the triger guard standing for `Verified Proof` that is for then moderen smokeless power. Warning! I had a guy load some .38 Short Colt Brass from Starline, damn near the same as S&W brass, and he filled it with 3.2 gr of Unique power and a .357 dia lead wade cutter bullet wt. 158 gr. NO NO NO The recoil broke my hard rubber grip and brused my middle finger from the triger guard.
What I have found out since then is max load of 2.6gr powder and 125 - 146 gr. round head lead bullet.
Didn't hurt the metal gun thank god. I'm sure that was close to the max proof test when the gun was new.

Quote from Reloader on January 28, 2010, 1:58 pmcurrent production Lee dies do have longer threaded die bodies. On older Lee die sets, your options are to turn their die lock ring upside down, or install the lock ring on the underside of the die. No worries.
