.380 adjustment problem
Quote from Reloader on March 21, 2017, 3:42 amI reload on a Dillon 650 press. This is not my first rodeo. I reload 9mm, 40s&w, .357 mag, 41 mag, 44 mag, 45 ACP and have never had a problem adjusting the powder measure for both proper powder charge and case belling until I started setting up for 380 ACP. My problem is when I get the powder measure adjusted so the white tab is all the way back I can't get the adjustment set to properly bell the case. The case bells so much that it splits the case and the press has not even reached the full stroke position. I have never had a problem with any of the other calibers I listed above. I have tweaked and fiddled with the adjustment just short of being committed to a mental institution. I'm sure this is something fairly simple and I just can't see the forest for the trees. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quote from Reloader on March 21, 2017, 4:53 pmIt sounds like your powder die is set down too far which would cause the flare/funnel to bell the case too much and split the case eventually.

Quote from Reloader on March 21, 2017, 7:14 pmI have adjusted the powder die exactly as described in the manual as I have done for all the calibers that I shoot. When I get it adjusted so the white tab goes all the way to the rear of the powder bar the case will split when I try to bell the case mouth. I am using the correct powder funnel. I cannot go to the top of the stroke before that happens. This is only happening when trying to adjust for the .380.

Quote from Reloader on March 22, 2017, 6:47 pmProblem solved!!! As I was about to take photos as suggested by you fine folks at Dillon, I adjusted the spring tension on the fail safe rod. Other than that I did every thing the same as before. Now it adjusts as it should and everything works as it should. The white tab goes all the way to the back of the powder bar and with a small amount of further adjustment the cases now are properly belled. Could it have been something as simple as adjusting the spring tension on the fail safe rod?
