45 ACP CRIMP DIE PROBLEMS
Quote from Reloader on June 4, 2013, 8:27 pmTalked with dillon today and there is a problem with the crimp die. The engineer took a look at it and set it up in a 550 press and they discovered it is not the correct size. that was the short answer I was also told they pulled all the ones they had off the line. I really would like to see dillon recall these dies for safety reasons due to a lot of beginners are getting into reloading and I don't think they will realize there is a problem expesialy if they are only loading for the 45acp. all that is happening with the crimp die is it shaves off the brass at the case mouth it never crimps the bullet and since this caliber head spaces at the mouth and this is bad because if the case is reloaded several times its going to weaken the mouth. I think dillon knew of the problem because they are already producing the right ones with correct tolerance because my new dies will be sent out today. their is no telling how many dies like this that they sold I think dillon should post a recall on the their web site and if they don't I am really thinking about never buying another thing from them again because they are putting money first over someone getting hurt. do not use dies and when you call make sure they understand to send the new corrected die or direct the caller to this post. good luck all.

Quote from Reloader on June 4, 2013, 8:56 pmCan you post a picture or describe what to look for on the bullet to tell if I have the same problem? I just received my 45 dies a month ago and have only loaded a couple hundred rounds. I don't have any popping coming from that die, and no shaving of brass. The case does have a bulge look to it at the bottom of the lead. My 9mm don't look like this??

Quote from Reloader on June 4, 2013, 9:38 pmAfter 45 minute wait I got through. The person I talked to wouldn't look at this topic and knew nothing about the issue yet, tried to explain the problem but he just said I wasn't adjusting it correctly. He was pretty short with me. He is sending me a new crimp die with a return label, so when that one comes in I'll give it a try and see if that resolves the issue.
Could Dillon Please make a comment on this issue???

Quote from Reloader on June 4, 2013, 9:53 pmCan't send pic. But you will know if you have a problem. The case binds in die and pops real loud coming out because it is stuck also lots of shavings and no matter how much you adjust nothing happens to crimp until it starts shaving brass. Look at the case mouth and it will be real shiny and have a tapered look. To getsome ask to talk to the old guy mike he knows what is going on when I called today he even went and talked to the engineer and saw first hand what was going on. I think dillon is just not responding to this issue because they would have to issue a recall and they should. This tells me they are putting money before safety I am really considering packing every thing back up and ask for a refund. I also think that the quality is and has suffered because they are making the product and shipping out because of the order load. I can understand the shipping delays and hard to reach customer service but the quality of there product is on a down hill slide and I have been a customer since 1996. Maybe a call to the consumer product saftey commission is the answer.

Quote from Reloader on June 7, 2013, 12:40 amI was told that all bad dies were pulled off line and they are producing the right size with some type of diffrent polishing. They are pretty tight lipped, I should have my new dies back this week or beginning of next week. But you notice dillon has not responded to this post if you look at a lot of other post with people having problems dillon has chimed in but not here. We will see soon.

Quote from Reloader on June 10, 2013, 3:23 pmI received new .45 acp crimp die and tested it out. No more shaving, no more cartridge hanging up and popping when retracted from die. Nice crimp and works smoothly as it should.
Thanks to Dillon for quickly sending me the replacement die and for the input from those who posted on this topic.

Quote from Reloader on June 10, 2013, 8:15 pmI too received my new die back and it too works smooth no more sticking in die and no more shaving brass all good. If you are having this problem ask the rep. To talk to the engineer he knows there is a problem. Thanks mike for going the extra step.

Quote from Reloader on February 7, 2015, 3:38 amYou would think that this problem would be fixed by now. I have not seen any new post on this. But I have Two brand new sets of carbide dies & both taper crimp dies stick & shave brass off. The end of the brass looks dull were it is bottoming out in to die and I'm not getting a crimp it is .472 to .475 dia. And I'm getting a loud popping sound when it releases. I load a lot of 9mm & have not had this problem. I have a 550B press.
