.45 acp gauge

Exactly how do you use a cartridge gauge?  They don't come with instructions.

I'm reloading .45 acp and most of my loads fall in and out of the gauge without any problem.  However a few, mainly from W-W seem to have a case base that is a tiny bit wider and they stick on the top of the gauge as if they were a rimmed case.  The diameter is slightly wide and I can stone the base and make them fit but am wondering if this is overkill.

Anyone else had this problem with brass being too wide at the base to fit in the cartridge gauge?  If so, what is the cure?  The problem is you can toss the case out as it has already been loaded.

Thanks.  I never realized an accessory manual existed.

dont know if you watch this thread still...but

dgg...is it the bottom of the case that wont fit or the rim area? the way i tell on the 45 is turn  the round upside down and lightly insert it if it is the rim (and 95% of the time it is) it wont start or just a little, then you can address it. i chamber check all of my rounds but many people dont. those are the ones you see at the match having trouble with their 1911's. and the cases just get worse and worse. I put all of the ones that wont chamber aside till i;m done, then i recheck them under my light/magnifier thats mounted on my bench. sometimes its just a piece of grit in the chamber gauge many times you can see an extractor ding pushing out alittle brass. I then have a small file to take down the rim. as i said the rim distorted is usually the problem. Winchester has always been  good brass..sometimes you see a bulge in the bass at the base above the rim unk why I suppose the last firearm to fire it could have issues also. I pick up brass and some of it is way deformed and looks like its been thru several wars. One brass I have had problems with is the amerc.. about 1/2 of them wont chamber i  dont bother with them anymore. If filling doesent work and all else fails I use my rcbs kinetic puller (hammer) that ive had for about 30 yrs, why it dosn't break i'm not sure, toss the case and reuse the componets. as practice ammo only.I have done this a thousand times with no issues. I also have my sizer down all but a thousand or 2, just so it doest touch. and dont over crimp..that can mess it up also. I hope this helps..I've reloaded a lot of 45acp and this is what I've discovered....all the best
