45 ACP seating issue
Quote from Reloader on December 20, 2015, 2:58 amSo I'm reloading 45ACP for the first time. As my brass goes through the FL sizing die (Dillon, btw), there's absolutely no friction between the die wall and the brass. I installed the die to a depth where it just contacts the shell plate so I think I'm doing that right. I also took out the depriming pin to double check diameter of the die and the brass falls through it with a ton of room to spare. As I've never reloaded pistol before, I thought maybe the powder die might push in the bulge of the brass while belling at the mouth, but I can see that's not the case. I have 8 rounds with the bullet seated all the way down to the level of the powder. What is going on? I think maybe my die is the wrong caliber even though it is stamped "Dillon 45ACP carbide sizing die." I wish I could upload a photo, it's the craziest thing! Can you guys tell me how it should work? Is there a squeezing with noticeable friction with the sizing die? Could I really have the wrong die? Totally confused on this one.

Quote from Reloader on December 20, 2015, 3:55 amSounds like maybe the carbide ring is missing. Look at the bottom of the die. There should be what looks like a ring inside the die. What I mean is when looking at the bottom of the die ( looking up into the die ) you should see two circles. One is the outside of the die and the other is the carbide insert.

Quote from Reloader on January 28, 2020, 2:42 amDid you find out the cause of your problem? You might measure the inside diameter of your sizing die. Your powder die should put a bell on the cartridge. The depth your bullet is seated is adjusted by your seating die. All of these adjustments as covered in the manual.
