45 just wont work
Quote from Reloader on December 7, 2013, 1:20 amI have tried everything I can think of to remedy this problem. I can load 38spl and 9mm all day long without a single problem. As soon as I put my 45 set up with large primer tube I can not get the brass lligned up properly on the first stage. I have tried every spring holder angle, no spring, upside down spring. As long as I hold my finger on the right of the brass and push just a little to the left does it lign up. I checked the shell plate and it is the right one. All other stages work good. I even brought my brothers 45 set up over to try on my machine and his does the same thing. First stage brass smash. Tilt the top of the brass just a tad to the left and it ligns up. I have tried to call Dillon and the only time I got thru the person told me to check my shellplate and make sure it was the right one....ughhhh....we are going to try my setup in my brothers tomorrow to see if mine malfunctions in his machine. Any suggestions???

Quote from Reloader on December 8, 2013, 6:03 amDid you tighten the lock ring (nut) with a case fully raised into the die as suggested in the owners manual? I am using RCBS carbide die in my 550B and have no problems as long as I tightened per the recommendations.

Quote from Reloader on December 8, 2013, 1:48 pmYes we tried that and no luck.
Here is an update.....We took my toolhead over to my brothers house and tried it in his machine...he has a 550 just like mine...it worked perfectaly. I am thinking it has to be the stand!!!! the only difference is he uses lee dies and I use Dillon.

Quote from Reloader on December 24, 2013, 7:13 pmstemci, james5m as you can see in my original post...I have tried every spring angle known to man, none of them work. Okii, the only way, other than to wait 45 minutes to talk to someone at dillion is to email them. It only takes over a week to get a response...but at least you get a response...they are sending me some sort of caliper or measuring device to check the alignment of the shell plate to first stage die. Not sure why...I can tell them the alignment is bad, whatever....Ill keep ya posted

Quote from Reloader on February 18, 2014, 1:32 amI finally got my 550 to load 45 acp without a hitch. Under the shell plate right next to the ball bearing that indexes the shell plate there are two allen head bolts. I had to loosen the two bolts and turn the whole assembly maybe 1/32" of an inch. Problem solved!!!

Quote from Reloader on April 11, 2014, 4:44 pmOK, let's revisit this topic. I also have the .45 ACP problem. I recently purchased a whole new caliber change setup: toolhead, dies, powder measure, etc. for an older 550b. The cases will not line up with the resizing die. I also have to push the case slightly to get it to feed straight. The case lines up perfectly with the other 3 stations. My cartridge spring clip is not touching the case. I have tightened the die with the ram up and a case in the die. I have adjusted the "shellplate platform" so I can get the primer seating cup centered.
Do I still have an adjustment problem? Is it possible that some toolheads may be out of tolerance?
Thank you!
