450 powder funnel removal
Quote from Reloader on July 23, 2010, 4:31 pmI am embarrassed to write this but I can't figure out how to get the powder funnel/expander out of my 450 powder die.
I switched to the 450 die awhile ago so I could load black powder. Now I want to go back to the 550 powder die so I can load a batch of smokeless, and darned it I can figure out how to get the funnel out.

Quote from Reloader on July 25, 2010, 11:43 amif i remember right the 450 powder dies used an allen screw in the side of the dies to hold the expander/funnels in place..unscrew the allen screw and the funnel should drop out
the 550 and later ones use a ridge in the bottom of the die to keep it from falling out
on the outher hand it is possable that your expander has rusted in the die and just wont drop out...you may have to get a wooden dowel or something of that nature and tap it out of the die
hopes this helps

Quote from Reloader on August 25, 2010, 1:35 pmThe 450 die should have a hex screw in the side, which locks the expander funnel in place.
I do not know that I would care to be loading black powder in a progressive machine. Any dropped powder would land in the "works" of the machine. That could eventually lead to a major bad day.
