45LC Case in 1st Position
Quote from Reloader on April 22, 2010, 2:04 amI have a newly purchased Square Deal that came with 45acp dies and I installed a new set of 45LC dies and found that in the first position the case mouth hits the resizer/extractor die and won't go in unless I put my finger on the case to lean it over a tiny bit. This occurs during single stage, and progressive reloading. All the other positions line up fine, but I just have to put a finger on the case in the first position every time or it hits and won't go in. Any ideas anybody?
Thanks,
Dan

Quote from Reloader on April 23, 2010, 6:54 pmI removed the center bolt, cleaned everything with a soft cloth, then reseated the bolt snug. I checked the grooves for the case head and all are clean and clear. The reloader is mounted level. I'm beginning to wonder if the shell plate is not machined correctly?

Quote from Reloader on May 6, 2010, 6:33 pmI've taken out the 45LC dies and installed 9mm dies and it seems to cycle normally.
If anyone has more ideas on why the cases do not line up in the first position, please let me know.

Quote from Reloader on May 7, 2010, 4:07 pmDo this please: Size a case, and using calipers, measure the diameter of the case mouth at two spots. If out of round by more than .001", please let us know. With a fired case in station 1, align the case and pull the handle down. Be sure the bottom of the die contacts the top of the shellplate. There should not be a gap between them.

Quote from Reloader on May 24, 2010, 12:17 amOkay, I finished up with the 9mm and put the 45LC dies back in. Per your suggestion, I sized a case and checked the outside diameter of the case mouth and it ranges from .464 to .472. I tried several cases and these dimensions are fairly consistent.
The cases still hit the bottom of the sizer die as usual.
Please advise, thanks!
