550 B jaming

I have a 550b for a few years, however since my last move the shell plates tightness up after a few rotations. Is there a nylon washer that goes in between the base and the shell plate? i don't see on on the diagram, nor do I recall that there was one.

A little troubling, had the rig for a few years, and it work without fail since day one. Now I have this, I'm stumped. If I let it "loose" then I get inconsistent primmer seating. If it is the "correct" tightness, it binds up after a few rotations.

Any ideas???

Not sure if this will fix the problem ...but it's worth a shot

When you set the tension on the shellplate bolt, you next need to snug the brass-tipped set screw on the side of the shaft. This prevents the shellplate bolt from tightening.

let me know if this helps

I have had my 550B for many years .... great machine! Some years back had a problem with multiple intermittent symptoms: 1. incorrect primer seating depth 2. primer slide binding 3. excessive shellplate play required just to get the darn thing to work! Turned out the fix was one of the two allen screws securing the Roller Bracket Shell Platform (14280) had worked loose, causing the above symptoms. But since the other screw was tight, the platform appeared normal. The loose screw also peened a slight burr on the primer slide with every pull of the handle.

I hope this helps

+1 on ietrooper. Tighten the brass-tipped set screw in the side of the shaft to prevent the shellplate bolt from tightening.

Thanks cnozumi

your post got me looking in the right direction.

I'm not a perfect reloader, so every now and then I make a mistake.  Especially if I change my routine by one step.

So, I missed a primer and ended up having some powder spill out from an unprimed case.  That got into those two screw holes you mentioned and caused the shell plate to bind up every few rounds.

cleaned it up and solved the problem.
