550? Change over from 9mm to .223
Quote from BlastRon on September 22, 2023, 1:39 amNew here. I’ve a 550, not sure if it’s a B or C which I haven’t used in 6 or more years. The 550 is set up to run 9mm but I’ve a Square Deal B that has 9 and .45. So, I’d like to convert the 550 to .223 which I’ve got the tool head and dies. How do I convert it? I used to have the DVD manual and a machine to play it on but the machine died and I’m unable to find the disks.
All thought and suggestions welcomeMario

Quote from Xiphos on September 22, 2023, 4:41 amOn the Dillon Precision website you can download the manual for the 550 or read it online.
There are also videos that are very instructive.
rl550c-manual.pdf (dilloncdn.com)
Follow the index down to "caliber conversions".
The differences between the 550B and "C' are basically related to lubrication features and modifications to the powder measure and primer feed system.
Caliber conversions are essentially identical.
Have some good fun! Why so long between sessions?

Quote from BlastRon on September 22, 2023, 3:39 pmTwo new knees, one replaced twice. One hip replaced, both shoulders, one twice involving three surgeries, 13” of intestines removed . . . . . Learning to live within these new limitations. Needless to say I’ve not done much shooting. But I’m eager to get back to living.
Thank you for your help.

And I thought I was suffering with three knees!
Good to hear you are on the mend.

Quote from BlastRon on September 23, 2023, 4:55 pmMaybe you can answer this, does Dillion or anyone else make a complete caliber change over? I mean everything, dies, powder block, star wheel, die block, everything necessary to change say from a .32acp to an 30.06 in one package? On the site I see lots of pieces and parts but I’ve yet to see a complete change over kit.

Quote from Xiphos on September 23, 2023, 5:43 pmI'm not aware of a complete "quick caliber conversion package".
Quick Change Kit | RL550 Series (dillonprecision.com)
The above link leads to the beginnings of a complete caliber conversion. It (the "Quick Change kit" includes a powder measure, tool head, stand, and powder bar. You will also need dies, a "caliber conversion kit" ("The Caliber Conversion Kit is separate from the die set, but just as necessary. This kit consists of the shellplate, which holds the cases against the top of the ram, the powder funnel, which is a floating cylinder the case pushes upward on to activate the powder measure, and the brass locator pins, which are lifted out to give you access to a case in any station of the loader. If the loader has a case feed system, the conversion kit will also include any case feed adapters.").
This is about as close as you'll get to a complete "kit".
I am sure the Human Manual will add to this.
PS Caliber conversion is not overly difficult. Keeping the parts all in one place is key to saving time and brain cells.

Quote from ARMTGuy on September 25, 2023, 8:54 pmWe've offered "E-Z Change kits" in a very few common calibers in the past. We deactivated these until dies are back in stock. We only offered them in a handful of calibers, not in every caliber. A caliber conversion kit, a die set, and a quick change are all you need generally.

If you are reloading 9mm with your square B, any chance you would consider selling your 550 dies?
Thank you in advance
