550b primer problem
Quote from Reloader on January 2, 2016, 10:25 pmI got my new 550b last week. Today I loaded 200 9mm. Out of the 200, it seated 5 primers sideways. Any ideas what the problem might be. Thanks

Second thing that comes to mind, is there is an adjustment set screw on the back of the primer feed body that adjusts how far the primer seating cup goes into it. Make sure that the primers are falling straight into the cup.
On my 550 I have backed the set screw all the way out.
Good luck.

Be sure the bent paperclip-looking spring at the first position is adjusted to be within .010" of touching the case. This spring acts as an adjustable locator button.

1) Have the machine mounted as firmly onto the table - and the table as firmly to the floor or wall. Any small vibrations from slack can cause the primers to dance around. make sure the machine fasteners are nice and tight with no slack. When I first started - I had the 550b on an old cheap table - the table was so light, any motion was causing harmonics. I weighted the table down with boxes of bullets at each leg. I since have a bench built and mounted into the wall. Also - install a strong mount
2) clean the primer slider bar assembly really well with alcohol. You want the slider bar to slide smooth - if it changes from smooth to hang up to smooth - your primer will dance around in the cup. The slider assemblies get pretty crudded up. Check your adjustment like someone else stated. I actually came across your post seeing if anyone recommends lubing the slider bar. Mine has a Teflon coated race and I wanted to get the lasted recommendation from Dillon on if it is to be lubed and if so - what type. I need to clean the primer sliding assembly about every 2k rounds. I'm doing mostly 9mm fwiw.
3) Win pistol brass has a smaller than normal primer pocket. If you are using anything other than a Win primer in Win brass - you will get a crunch similar to trying to load into an un-swaged Nato 9mm. I look at my headstamp as I load it and if it is Win - I pull it after sizing, run it through my super swage, then seat the primer. Problem solved.
Good luck
