Quote from Reloader on July 6, 2013, 11:43 amI am using lee dies and rcbs dies I find the 308 dia. bullet is loose in the brass after seating and trying to crimp it. the bullet does not want to stay tight.
using rem. and winch. brass, even tried the cheap steel stuff, I cannot get this stuff to get it to crimp.
now ive tried cast, and regular bullets from different companies .
if I used a 303 bullet at.311dia. would that be too much pressure?
im using it in a mini 30, sks,and a 47
any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks to all for any help.

I am running into a similar issue with a few of my surplus rifles. I'm getting terrible accuracy from my loads. I've decided to "slug" the barrels on 4 of my rifles so I can order the correct diameter bullets and load properly for each rifle. I found this link - http://www.surplusrifle.com/reloading/slug/index.asp - to have some very helpful information and I'm in the process of getting all the needed items together. One item of note, be sure to get hardwood dowel (not sure if the article says that). I've been reading other posts and it's less likely to splinter/break than the softer woods. I hope this helps.

Quote from Reloader on July 16, 2013, 6:26 pmThe 7.62x39 cartridge is intended to use a .311-.312" dia bullet.
The Mini-30 has a .308" barrel, but the throat is designed for the normal .311-312" bullets, and squeezes them down slightly at this point. I suggest the Speer or Hornady .311-.312" bullets in the 123-125 grain weights for these firearms.
