Auto-indexing trouble tip
Quote from Reloader on December 28, 2010, 8:48 amHello all!
I'm not sure if this is the proper place for this, but here goes anyways...
My Square Deal B suffered from what seemed to be a slightly short auto-indexing action. Often the shell plate would fall just a bit short of the required distance, and I just couldn't figure out what was causing this. I checked the pages on dillonhelp.com, lubed and tightened everything I could think of, took the machine apart, put it back together again, but the problem stayed. Major league frustration indeed!
Then the shell plate bolt broke.
I pried loose the shell plate, which was now firmly stuck in the press, replaced the broken bolt with a shiny new one, and behold, it's a miracle, the indexing problem was gone. I've loaded some 500 rounds since replacing the shell plate bolt and have had no indexing problems at all. Before this happened, I had some 2 to 5 short indexing strokes per 25.
So, if you're experiencing weird auto-indexing problems, maybe you should also look at the shell plate bolt and see if it must be replaced.
Cheers,
Frank.
