Bench top height
Quote from Reloader on February 12, 2017, 5:22 pmGreetings,
The wife and I started shooting a year ago and now find ourselves going through ~ 600 rounds of 9mm per month. I've been saving brass and have a large enough supply to start reloading and plan on purchasing a 550C. We're a bit older than most starting reloading so will probably be sitting on stools more so than standing at the press. Question: How do you determine the proper bench top height for the bench?

Quote from Reloader on February 25, 2017, 5:33 pmEveryone is going to be a little different. I have an American Work Bench reloading bench. It can be customized, but I got the 36" bench height. It is adjustable a few inches. However, it works for me with the XL650 mounted to the bench. No strong mount. I usually sit in a slightly shorter stool. But I can stand. My height is 6'1".
A bit taller stool with a 8 1/2" strong mount would also work. I could still use it standing. Probably better in fact. It is not a critical thing. As long as you are not bending over a lot, or having to stretch your neck to see, it should work well. The strong mounts have some advantages over mounting directly to the bench. A place to mount a tool holder and bullet trays. If you use an after-market spent primer device, it will route better than I can do with the press mounted directly to the bench.
