Black Powder for CAS
Quote from Reloader on February 5, 2011, 6:45 pmI just bought and assembled the RL 550B reloader with cartridge feeder and RF 100 primer filler so I could save some money on shooting CAS. On reading a few books on the CAS sport it was mentioned that using Black Powder produced a fair bit of smoke which was customary to the old days shooters. Following that I read that using a machine like I just bought was not a good idea as the plastic powder measure could build up a static charge which would ignite the powder in the hopper.
I live in a cold and dry area where the sparks will jump almost a foot to the door knob and climbing into bed with the misses can be a shocking experience at times.
Should I run a ground wire off the Strong Mount to my house hold grounding system?
Should I have my machinist build me a metal hopper for the Powder Measure base?

lyman and Hornady offer aftermarket approved measures for use with black powder. Use one of those, and definitely ground the machine.
