Brass Problems
Quote from Reloader on May 21, 2009, 1:08 pmI purchased 1k once fired 40 S&W brass form Dillon, for my Sig P226. They are a mixed lot of Speer, Federal and Winchester. It seems that some of the Speer and Federal brass, when I am resizing gets scraped on one side as if the die is stretching the brass or on some the whole case is being stretched and leaves a little lip 1/8 of an inch from the bottom and don’t fit thru my case gauge. I don't know what kind of gun these were shot out of and I am using an RL550B and Dillon dies. Is this ruining my dies? Maybe these were shot out of a Glock? Do I re-size all and just throw away the ones that this happens to. I would really like some input.
Thank you,
Marc

Quote from Reloader on May 21, 2009, 2:05 pmI suspect the bulged cases were fired in an early Glock or other unsupported chamber. You might try backing the size die up 1/2 turn and see if that reduces the lip at all. Then use your barrel as a gage, as it will be looser than the gage is. they won't damage the machine or dies at all.

Quote from Reloader on May 25, 2009, 12:03 pmIf they were shot through a Glock there is a resising die that is made to bring the 40.s back to spec. it think lee makes the die you can run the die in a single stage press for that. You can give that a try.

Quote from Reloader on April 2, 2012, 6:11 amI run all my .40 S&W thru a lee body sizer before resizing. I have a briley match barrel in a mod 24... It's the only way i can get it to function reliably with reloads... Always work with factory... Bet yours does too.
