Breaking deprimer pins
Quote from Reloader on March 6, 2017, 6:45 pmI bought some bulk 5.56 rounds for a really good price. When I got the shipment I opened and things looked good. I don't generally separate brass for plinking and since everything looked good, I started depriming. After about 15 rounds I bent the pin, replaced with the spare and started again. I broke the 2nd pin after 2, WELL DAMN! Made a call to Dillon to figure out what I was doing wrong, after a couple of minutes discussion the problem was discovered. It turns out that brass was the culprit! There is lots of 1x brass coming out that the flash hole is smaller than SAMMI Specs. You hit one thinking it's just extra stiff so apply a little more pressure to push it out and BAM! And if you think about it, there is only a 1/8th inch pin between you and failure. Watch how much pressure you apply depriming, if one stops you solid dont keep pushing, check your brass, separate if your a mind to and have extra pins on hand. Also it turns out that i applied so much pressure that i bent the stem on my die, so had to order another one. Dillon Tech Support is the BEST as always!
