Bullet Feeder

Page 1 of 2Next

I just ordered a new XL650 and case feeder and powder check, the question is what is a good bullet feeder to buy that will work well with the 650? I am leaning towards a Harnady but not sure how to mount it to the press.

You would have to eliminate one of the other stations. The most common one I've seen replaces the powder check. Personally, I think the powder check is one station I could not do without. The only other possibility would be to replace both the seat and crimp dies with a die that does both. (again, I don't like this idea). If I absolutely had to have a bullet feeder I think I'd do it on a 1050. I load around 1200 rounds a week and feeding the bullets manually isn't a problem for me.

I have been thinking of doing the same. Both the Hornady and RCBS have pros and cons.

From my research.

The Hornady feeder does not have a cut off switch in the collator. That would get very annoying.

The Hornady collator will not do both pistol and rifle.

The RCBS dropper dies are crap.

Maybe a combination from both machines are the way too go?

Mr Bullet Feeder is just expensive for change-overs.

Mr. Bulletfeeder is a great piece, but right, expensive

The RCBS feeder works good but needs to be mounted absolutely rock solid. There die needs some work. the plastic bullet fingers wear out quite fast.

We have 2 presses setup with the RCBS feeders but one press we use the Hornday die and the other we use a old Gaspari.

Mr. Bullet makes a mini bullet feeder. Cost is $139.95. It feeds 100 bullets from a magazine type setup. They have the best bullet dropper on the market. I have the Hornady and RCBS bullet droppers. They are junk compared to a Mr. Bullet dropper. Made by Double Alpha Academy and sold by Competitive Edge Dynamics. WEB site is http://www.ceddaa.com

I don't see the advantage (time savings) of manually loading bullets into a tube, that will then be automatically inserted into the case, via the machine. I idea behind a bullet feeder is to take the human handling of the bullets out of the loop.

I've been looking at Mr.Bulletfeeder

I think is just a matter of time until Dillon produces one of their own. Considering the quality of the rest of their products I'm pretty sure it will out do RCBS Hornady and Mr. Bulletfeeder I'll just wait

I own a GSI bullet feeder system for Rifle and Pistol.  Does anyone have a comment?  I have been mostly loading 30'6 and the GSI just does .22cal.  For each pistol round it costs a ton to convert and you even have to buy hopper rings for different bullets in the same caliber.

I may never install it.

I use the Mr. Bulletfeeder for 3 calibers, 223, 45 and 9mm. I eliminated the powder check station. It is a little expensive, but once adjusted correctly, it works. I keep one eye on that station the whole time to visually ensure there is the right amount of powder as that case comes into the station from the powder drop. The visual inspection must be quick before I pull the handle to put the bullet on top of the case. Its not difficult, but does require some diligence and no distractions. The 1050 might be an option if you haven't purchased the machine yet, but the warranty is not the great lifetime the 650 has. That was my deal buster for the 1050, however I do like the swage station on the 1050. I don't think the 1050 would give you the extra station though. The tool head looks like there are 2 areas that don't have milled holes for dies, leaving only 6 available, with the swage station taking up the lone extra station. Can a 1050 owner verify this?
