Case Charging For Hight Power Rifle Competition
Quote from Reloader on January 28, 2014, 6:41 amI reload .223 REM for High Power Rifle competition. Because I use an extruded propellant (Vihtivuori N140 Smokeless Powder), and because charging must be exact, I remove each case from the Dillon XL650 Press (the “Press”) after the primer has been seated and place them in a loading block.
Primed cases are then charged (25.7 gr) using a RCBS 98923 Chargemaster Combo/Scale Dispenser and RCBS 9087 Powder Funnel. Primed and charged cases are then placed back into the Press for Bullet Seating (Sierra #1380 69gr HPBT MatchKing, or #9377 77gr HPBT MatchKing) The completed cartridge is not crimped.
Could the process be improved by using a Dillon Powder Die and Plastic Funnel (see Page 13, The Blue Press, February 2014, parts K72-16629 and K72-16617, respectively)? This would eliminate removing primed cases from the Press to be charged.
Will the BL 550 Powder Die (Part K72-16629) fit in the XL 650 Toolhead (Part K72-13863)?
If not, will the Plastic Funnel (Part K72-16617) securely fit on top of the XL 650 Powder Die (Part K72-20064)?
Thank you in advance!

Quote from Reloader on January 28, 2014, 12:17 pmFor my 'hand load' what you are talking about is exactly what I do as a replacement for the powder station.
K72-16629 (powder die) and K72-16617 (plastic funnel) fitting on the XL 650 Toolhead (Part K72-13863). Do not forget to put in the powder funnel so the powder is guided into the case.
For extruded powders like you are using you have to tap the side of the case part of the way returning the press to make sure you vibrate all the powder into the case. Something similar to what you probably do on the loading block.
