Case feed of .223 cases

Page 1 of 2Next

Hi,
I am getting an upside down case every once in a while. This is just slightly annoying and would like some tips on preventing this.

Thanks, Vance

How old is the machine? Is there a sheet-metal cuff pressed over the left edge of the opening in the bowl where cases fall out?

I ordered it on 5/11/12 and received it 5/17/12. Yes, it does have a metal sleeve on the left edge of the case drop opening.

order # 3477926

How much brass do you put into the hopper? a one pound coffee can is a good volume of brass measure. Besides overloading the bowl, the other common casue for flipped cases is a bench that isn't sturdy enough. If the case feeder sways during the loading process, then flipped cases will occur.

200 is the most I've put in, but it does it whether I put 200 in or 10 in. The bench is a solid bench built for wood working and it is fastened to the wall. No swaying there.

The 357 mag conversion works fine. The cases for that feed fine all the time.

Are you using part number 13703 washer between the 21074 small rifle plate and the 13736 lower clutch?

You need that washer for .357's, but not .223.

No, I wasn't using the washer under the small rifle feed plate. I put it under the large pistol plate. It's easy enough to put the case in the shell plate right side up after it comes out upside down. Just wish it wouldn't happen.

I spent some time this afternoon, up on a ladder, watching .223 cases fall into the funnel, and for the life of me, I cannot see how this can happen if your machine is set up properly.

I'd like to suggest that you check two things.

One, that the case feeder plate is all the way down and fully engaged with the lugs on the motor. Their should be very little space between the rotating plate and the plastic bowl at the hole.

Two, the opening in the bowl, about midway in the opening and between the metal tab on the left and the plastic on the right measures just a tad over 1 and 1/4". If you have calipers, you should see 1.28 or pretty close to that.

Here are a couple of photos of what my 650 looks like.
