Case feed of .223 cases

PreviousPage 2 of 2

Thanks for that mirodney. The feeder plate is all the way down and the opening on mine measures 1.261. I have watched mine operate while having the discharge tube dropping into a bin so it will keep running. Quite frequently I see a case start to tip in nose first, but it rights itself and drops primer end first. Sometimes it doesn't and the case drops nose first. I notice that it happens more often when the collator is set to low speed and less often when set to high speed.  I wonder if the motor in my collator is running fast enough in high speed.

On high speed, the motor should run at 3 1/2 -4 1/2 RPM

Hi,
I did some more watching of this collator. I noticed that the cases that get picked up by the feeder plate and are traveling up the bowl primer end first always feed correctly. The cases that travel up the bowl neck first more often than not drop into the feed tube neck first. It has gotten more annoying. So much so that I now do not use the collator for .223. I just fill the feed tube manually.

Dillon, what rpm should the disc turn at low rpm?

Mine works perfectly at the speed I have.

This fellow needs your help here.

I can't help but believe that it is the drop opening that is causing the problem.

Perhaps if he returned the bowl and feeder plate to you, you could solve this gentleman's problem.

Hi,
My case collator runs at 4 2/3 rpm's on high. I can call you tomorrow at around 4 pm so we can trouble shoot this easier. I believe this time of year, Arizona is at the same time as Oregon, so that shouldn't be a problem.

On low RPM the disc turns at 1 1/2 -2 1/2 RPM. A resistor moderates the low speed, so it can vary more. In general, use low side for handgun brass, high side for rifle brass. I still suspect the bowl is swaying more than it ought to during the operation.

It drops cases neck first even when the machine is not moving.

Mjrodney gave me an idea when he said he thought it had something to do with the opening width. So I went down to the basement and watched some more cases go through the collator and did notice that if they came up the bowl in the plate neck first, they would tip neck first. A few jammed in the opening neck pointed down and a few fed into the tube neck first. I adjusted that piece of metal on the left edge of the opening so it was out an additional 3/16 of an inch so the opening is that much narrower and no more up side down cases. Hopefully, this will help someone else
