Case Feeding Issues
Quote from Reloader on June 22, 2009, 9:22 pmJust wanted to post a response to the suggested fix. First off I only did one slot. "It does work". Every round that was in that slot fell easily. The down side is, this is not a solution. First off it thickness of the clip is at least 1/8" to small. When you try to push it on, it buckles the trailing legs so it can't hold. After pounding, straighting and re-bending, I got one that fits ok. but It needed to be secured, since it would not sit there by itself. So I did small rivet to hold it in place. Lastly, because you have a circle and the right angles are not aligned to circle, alot of cutting and trimming & re-bending is required.
I also made a brass face to the slot edge, and it worked ok. At least it was easier than the Stainless.
After looking closely at each of the slots, there were numerous nicks, cuts and scratches in the slot ends. This plate has been in use for 1,000's of rounds. Maybe its worn out ? But in my estimation, it never fed rounds on a reliable basis. Heavily lubed rounds get stuck to the "Flat" and won't fall (Unless they are touched). I fixed that problem so the rounds now fall. All I know is that if a round has been trimmed, most of those rounds want to stick on the slot end.
Summary: The fix works but to hard to implement. I may just wrap the slot ends in brass, its easier to work with and does function.

Quote from Reloader on June 23, 2009, 3:22 pmTry using either a large file or a sanding block to smooth the nicked face of the notch, see if that corrects it. Just do this to one notch as a test. If it works, let me know and I'll send a replacement disc.

Quote from Reloader on June 24, 2009, 4:29 pmAfter filing and sanding one of the slots it got better. I'd have to say right around 80% of them fell. A couple of them that didn't fall had a fairly significant burr. I'm wondering if I didn't keep the cartridge up against the trimmer long enough thus resulting in leaving a burr. But does look like it got much better after cleaning that slot up.

Quote from Reloader on June 30, 2009, 12:58 amDo you champfer and outside deburr the cases after trimming? If you don't, the case mouth may be sharp and rough causing it to hang up on the feed plate.

That actually is the problem. I used to debur them, but since I'm reloading this ammo for Browning Machin Guns, I'm not looking for accuracy, I need production.
It seems after x 1000 rounds, the plate gets alot of knicks, and scratches and the rounds seem to get lodged against the plate and then not fall.

Quote from Reloader on July 20, 2009, 8:43 pmI wanted to post a update to my issues. Dillon has sent me a new Large Rifle case feed plate. I have not tried it yet, due to the weather. Its mid summer in phoenix, and the temps have exceeded 114 degrees and its a little to tostie in the garage for reloading. So I'll post a final update when the weather settles down a bit.
Everyone have a good summer.
