Case insert slide to pos #1

The “Case Insert Slide” that pushes the case into “Locator Position One” on the shell plate does not push a 9mm case fully into the shell plate; therefore, the edge of the case mouth catches on the edge of the sizing die and stops. I can not find a way to adjust the extent of the push into the shell plate.

My 650 did that when I switched from .45 ACP to 9 mm. There is a vertical rod that that activates the cam which controls the positioning of the shell in position 1. Loosen the lock nut and use an Allen wrench to shorten the vertical rod. Looking at it from above you would turn the rod counter clockwise. Retighten the lock nut. That will cause the shell casing to be pushed farther into position.

Also checkout the case insert slide. It is also adjustable a small amount. See page 37 of the user manual. Figures 183 through 185 show the adjustment screw. There is text to help. This along with the case insert slide cam adjustment help with setting the case in station 1.

One thing I forgot to mention: While switching my 650 over from .45 to 9 mm this morning, I cleaned off the parts that came out of the machine. One that was particularly dirty was the plate that holds the 5 cases that rotates. Using a small screwdriver and a piece of thin cloth I cleaned the part of the plate where the rim of the cartridge entered and was held. There was a considerable amount of 'gunk' in that semicircular area. The gunk can easily prevent the cartridge from being positioned fully.

Be sure to apply a glob of grease to the underside of the station 1 locator. THis both dampens vibration as well as keeping this part in position
