Case mouth shavings
Quote from Reloader on December 17, 2014, 1:44 pmI am loading .45 ACP with my 650. I have noticed a large amount of brass shavings on my shell plate and in the finished cartridge catcher.
I seat and crimp separately with Dillon dies. It is happening at the crimp station. The crimp at the case mouth is .470... perfect. However, the crimping die is shaving off slivers of my brass. This is not new brass but "once fired" brass.
After sending pictures to Dillon, they maintain this is normal with new brass, especially Starline brass ; this is not new or Starline brass. I only flare the case mouth minimally...
I have done a lot of reloading and have NEVER seen brass shavings like this! I wish I knew how to attach a picture so you could see the shavings.
Anyone else experienced this with the crimp die? Any ideas would be appreciated

Quote from Reloader on December 17, 2014, 8:09 pmMine has done that since new (9mm) Doesn't seem to affect anything and I've loaded over 50K in the past year. I just clean out the chute and the competed bin every once in a while.

Contacted Dillon support, and they sent me a new insert for the crimping die and it took care of the shaving problem...
