Case Stuck In Sizing/Decapping Die

Page 1 of 10Next

I cleaned and lubed up the cases (used Dillon case lube) all .30-06 military brass. On one case, it failed to slide under the shellplate retaining slot, and when the decapping pin knocked out the primer, the case became stuck in the die. This is not the carbide die. I've tried removing the decapping pin from the die, and it's stuck inside the case, the case is stuck inside the die with about 3/8" sticking out of the bottom the die.

Can I send the die out to Dillon to see if it can be removed, or is it a hopeless cause and maybe I should suck it up and just buy a new die?

Thanks, I referred to the video, I did everything shown to extract the case, but it still won't come out. I will take an exception to the causes for a stuck case, though. I lubed those cases with Dillon Case Lube pretty heavily before I put them in the casefeeder. Apparently, I didn't pull the actuating handle far enough and the case got pushed on top of the shellplate instead of under it.

I tightened the decapping pin as far as I thought it should go, and tried to estimate the gap compared to the video, and it moved the case about another 1/16". After that, I unscrewed the decapping pin, but it won't come out of the die, telling me that it's still stuck in the case.

I wasn't able to extract the case using the vise-grip pliers and a hammer, there isn't a lot of room to put the jaws of those pliers and swing the hammer to tap the pliers.

I'll call for an RMA.

Thanks again.

I got the die back today. I can't tell if it's a new one or the one I sent out to you. If it's a replacement, I must have really trashed the old one. If so, I'll make sure that I keep this die lubed up, even if I lube the cases.

Thank you for helping me out. It's why I recommend Dillon to my friends.
