CCI Primers
Quote from Reloader on May 15, 2008, 3:15 pmHi Dillon,
I was out of primers and is ready to go buy some more.
I was told that I should never use CCI small pistol primers in any of the Dillon's Machine.
Is that true? And the reason behind it?
Is it better to use Winchester instead?
Please advise.

Quote from Reloader on May 21, 2008, 5:24 pmI've used CCI primers when I had a 550 for years when I lived in Texas - no problems. Now I have Square Deal's and am using Winchester primers only because they are more readily available where I live (Georgia). The only thing about primers I've heard (truth unknown) is Federal primers are "softer" and if the primer mechanism jams it might set them off.
I set off a whole tub of primers one time using a real old Dillion 1000 that was not set-up properly and it was something I wouldn't want to repeat. After changing my drawers, I checked out the Dillion and it wasn't hurt, couldn't say the same for the ceiling and my nerves.
Hope that help - use what you got.

Quote from Reloader on May 23, 2008, 8:17 amI am using CCI primers and have one problem - it is probably when there are last 3 primers left, press makes strange click noise and doesn`t feed primer. Than on next lever stroke early warning device starts beeping and primer is fed - but I have already one cartridge without primer on the next station.
Is it normal?

Quote from Reloader on December 20, 2009, 8:23 pmi used to use cci primers in my dillon square deal loader and i found that it took so much pressure to seat them that my handles would break. i replaced a couple of handles before i figured out it was the primers causing the handles to break. i always use winchester primers now and have not had to replace a handle since.

Quote from Reloader on December 31, 2009, 9:56 amrollie1959 is right on the money!! I used to use CCI's but that hard chromed plating on them gave me problems on my 650. they wouldn't seat properly if the pimer pocket was the least bit dirty or a smidge small. I also had a COOK-OFF with 85 CCI's in the tube, I also had to change my Hanes and order a new plastic rod that goes down the primer hopper, It actually broke after putting a nice hole in my ceiling. By the way , if you put a .45 ACP brass case on the end of that plastic rod, (It fits perfect), it gives you a little weight on the rod and I truly think they feed better that way. Try it, it can't hurt anything. God, I remember the old days loading on an RCBS single stage press, what a pain!! Thank God for Dillon and thier myriad of accesories. I have damn near everything in the Blue Press, and still look at it every month.
