Completed 9mm Appearance

I recently got a Dillon xl650 and started loading 9mm right away. I got the the press set up and the bell adjusted properly, or at least I believe so. I'm loading Sierra 9mm 8120 125 grain FMJ.

Everything shoots fine but when I look at the rounds itself, it almost appears they are stretched like the Bullet itself is too big. However it fits in a case gauge perfectly and I can't feel any deformation.

Am I just being overly concerned about cosmetics?

Curious no one has replied to this. I do not do 9mm yet. I do 380acp, 38Special, 357Mag, 44Russian, 45acp, and 45Colt. They all have that look to a certain extent. I have pondered how ammo manufacturers seem to load theirs and not have the wasp-waist look.

The semi-auto ammo chambers using the case mouth and must not be roll crimped. So I adjust the crimp die to just remove the bell. I have a nice case mouth tight against the bullet without it digging into the jacket or plating. At that point I can see the bullet's shape in the case. Less so on the 380acp as it's so short. I know it's held tight and will not compress under recoil. If I add more crimp it exaggerates that effect. Continue adding and I may risk roll crimping the case mouth. Or crushing the case.

So the safest thing for all rounds is to start with no crimp and adjust the die down to achieve the crimp you need. Approach the end result very slowly.

I had some cases where I think the brass was harder. Older cases. They did not have that look. Funny thing. I had several crack upon firing. Weeded them out. Being able to see the bullet shape does not seem to be a bad thing as long as it's as little as possible.

9x19mm is a tapered case. The neck portion is sized straight, to provide proper case tension on the bullet. Below that, the case tapers outward a bit. It is normal to see where the bullet stops going into the case, moreso on 9mm than on other cartridges.
