Quote from Reloader on January 23, 2013, 4:41 amWell supply and demand is working, the local gun shop is asking $51.00 for 1000 snall pistol primers, I use to get these for $38.00 last summer.

Quote from Reloader on February 25, 2013, 4:52 pmI'd not shop there any more either but it is a free market. Anything else is socialism/communism. IF one does not know the history of how supplies
worked in communism feel free to read up how the average Russian enjoyed waiting in line for a loaf of bread or toilet paper.Anyway, back on topic .
Around here, Texas, I had a shop I could buy WW large pistol and small pistol primers for 29.00 per K as of a couple months ago.
Of course supply dried up. His latest shipment as of a week ago it cost
me 35 bucks per K.A shop in Houston about 2 to 3 months ago (carter's country ') was billing
40 bucks plus per 1k of similar primers (non magnum types) I never buy
from them as they are always too high for my blood. Only if it was a emergenciy would I purchase primers from them. Doesn't matter now as
they had zero stock every time I dropped by for the past month or so.
Gun shows I see prices around here as of a month ago, about 30 bucks per K for WW large primers. Could not find small pistol or anything else at that time other than black powder firing caps (haha). Some vendors at gun shows around here were up around 35 bucks per K of same.So I'd say prices where you shop are high. Maybe a cousin of Carter's Country?
As a sad reference of where your dollar is today. Up until a few months
ago I still had a few k of 1975ish era CCI large pistol primers and some small pistol. Price on box was 6 dollars.
Had some Unique and 2400 Hercules (now Alliant) 4 to 5 dollars a pound.
Stickers on the cans. I'm keeping the empties.I expect primers will go up again and sadly , probably never come down.
Most vendors I see online have zero in stock every time I look.Lucky for me the fair minded gun shop down the road(independent guy)
got enough in for me to buy 5k each small and large pistol. Hoping to get mits on some small rifle next week.I'm not a fan of paying high prices but if the free market is not allowed to work, shortages will become worse. Prices' must be allowed to float. Competition has a chance to move in. Just grin and bear it.
The solution some come up with is to 'ban gouging' is the wrong one.
That is communism.

Quote from Reloader on March 25, 2013, 8:30 pmI bought a bunch several years ago, still have some in the 17 dollar range. Last time I bought more was five thousand for 100 bucks. Since I now have well over 20,000 on hand, not too worried about current prices. Price of bullets ain't a whole lot better.
