D-terminator scale
Quote from Reloader on March 25, 2013, 1:03 amI have been reloading .45 ACP. I find that my D-Terminator scale will, after calibrating, vary .1 or even .2 grains. Some times it even varies right after calibrating. I will calibrate with the 50 gram test weight, then put the weight back on it and get a reading of 49.99. Or, right after calibrating I will put on a 5grain test weight a get a reading of 4.9 gr.
I am a little concerned. 1/10 gr of a load that is less than 5 grains seems significant. I reload in a basement with closed windows so there is no breeze affecting the scale. No noticeable vibrations, etc.
Is this kind of variation normal?

Quote from Reloader on March 25, 2013, 2:07 amI don't have a D-TErminator scale but I'd say no, that would not be normal.
I don't see that with my Gempro 250 anyways.Assuming as you say no drafts or such perhaps it is RF (radio frequency)
interference. Nearby cell phones or any other transmitting gear
can affect these very delicate measuring instruments. On my Gempro I just use A/C mains to power mine via the adapter
and it is left on a lot. They do need time to stabalize perhaps
you need to let it 'warm up' a bit.
Ive been told on most reloading grade scales that are sold the
devices round errors are larger than many realize. I'd only consider
the typical reloading grade scale giving consistant results in the tenth
of a grain bracket. I find most of them no better than the 35 dollar
cheapi electronic scales one can buy.
Or, it could be your D-Terminator is flaking out. Luck.
