Decapping / Deprimer - Stage 1 stuck
Quote from Jedi88 on July 15, 2024, 10:23 amAfter reloading around 800 rounds , I had one case get super stuck on phase 1.
I managed to use a vicegrip and use massive knocking after using ice water to release the case.
Tried again and 10 rounds successful and now its stuck again.
Questions:
- After spending time on Google - can't seem to find the exact part number
- Would this be covered under warranty
- Why is this happening? Anyone else been through this , why ? What is solution going forward?

Quote from The Human Manual on July 15, 2024, 3:24 pmCheck the pockets in the shellplate for damage. Excessively expanded cases can develop enough friction to stick in the size die. Usually the case rim folds down before the shellplate is damaged. When this occurs, remove the decap assembly and run a punch down through the hole to tap the case out of the die. If the shellplate is damaged, then it must be sent in for warranty replacement.

Quote from Wally on July 17, 2024, 9:28 pmFWIW: I always use a spray lube on wet-tumbled cases--this kind of tumbling makes it a bit more difficult to size them. Not saying yours are wet-tumbled
when this happened to me I would just LIGHTLY put it in a vice, more to just hold it in place vs. tightening it, and tape the case out from the top
you might want to try a bit of spray lube as the cases could be over-expanded due to a chamber being at the max end of the SAMMI specs
also be sure you have the correct shell plate installed and be sure the shell plate screw is tight--if it's loose the plate can tilt and the case could slip out
