Die question .223 / 5.56x45
Quote from Reloader on October 6, 2008, 8:32 pmI have brass from both .223 Remington and 5.56x45mm M193 Rounds.
I can't seem to locate dies for the 5.56x45mm. would I use the .223 Dies set I purchased form DP to reload the 5.56 ammo ?
I've seen a couple forum posts from people that say they use the .223 dies for this, I just wanted to know if there were any drawbacks to doing this of if anyone was aware of a set of dies specifically for 5.56.
Thanks

Quote from Reloader on October 7, 2008, 3:47 pm.223 remington dies are just fine for 5.56 NATO ammo. The primary difference in the two chambers is not in the case dimension but in the throat and leade specifications. 5.56 NATO has a longer throat, allowing velocities to be higher at safe pressures. Problems happen when shooting 5.56 NATO ammo in a 223 chamber, as the shorter throat in the 223 chamber causes higher pressures, sometimes to an unsafe level.

Quote from Reloader on December 31, 2008, 11:52 pmYa .223 and 5.56NATO are the same t for the case thickness. The 5.56 is thicker because of the rapid fire and higher chamber pressures the military uses. The only thing i buy for my Ruger Mini-14 is military brass. Its just not that smart to fire military ammo in a .233 chambered rifle because of the pressures, but if you reload once-fired 5.56 its fine.( I do it all the time)
Hope this helps!!!!!
