Dillon bullet feeder jams on 45 Colt 160Gr bullets
Quote from captfrank on December 22, 2025, 8:40 pmI just got the Dillon bullet feeder and started loading 45 Colt 200gr hard cast coated bullets and after a bit of fine tuning it worked just great! Then started to load 160gr hard cast 45colt. Issue I’m having is the bullet jams in the bullet feeder chute (sideways or pointed out) and 2 bullets also on ring carrier as 2 can fit and one can be upside down or sideways thus both come down.
I contacted Dillion a couple times today and I think I see the issue. The 160gr bullet is of course .452 in diameter but it also is only .44 in length. The bullet can fit sideways in the chute but a 200gr cannot. I think for a 160gr .45 colt probably needs a custom bullet ring and chute to prevent this problem. Per Dillion I tried the 9mm ring, no go as still jams in the chute if a bullet happens to go down. Not blaming Dillion as 160 gr in 45 colt is a bit on the odd size except for us SASS/cowboy action folks.
