Dillon Case Lube

I am getting back in to reloading with my upgraded Dillon RL 550B press and I am starting with 308 Win. In the past I had reloaded 45 ACP with carbide dies and no lube on the RL 550B, but the 308 Win cases require lube. I used to reload 50 BMG on a RCBS press and I lubed my cases with RCBS Case Lube-2 on a pad for the body and Neco dry neck lube for the neck. The cases resized with minimal effort. I have a bottle of Dillon Case Lubricant and I gave it a try on several hundred 308 Win cases. The lubricant worked fine, but made a mess of my RL 550B press. Is this normal? Photo attached.

You could be overlubing the cases. However, overlubing is preferable to applying insufficient lube.

Understood. . . Thanks !!

I lay mine out on tin foil and then spray, roll them a bit and spray again using a sweeping motion. Make sure to let the liquid carrier dry for a few minutes.

I have found that improper case lubing causes a whole lot of problems like extruded powder metering problems. Often times too much lube is the reason why the powder sticks to the inside of the case opening and causes a build up of powder that does not fall easily into the case causing powder spill. Also a build up of lube in the powder die causes powder drop problems.
What I use is lanolin and a product called Heet that is 98% alcohol and is available at Wal Mart or car parts stores. It is a carb cleaner and evaporates quickly. I squirt it onto a anti static dryer sheet (just 5 squirts...don't over do it and put it in a plastic bag..and then add 50 cartridges. I toss the bag around for about a minute and I never have powder drop problems with any powder...extruded or ball...ever. I used to use a tiny vibrating motor on the powder measure but the noise was annoying. Keeping the lube under control was the best way to stop powder drop problems and lube build up in the die.
