Dillon Inertia hammer collet
Quote from Reloader on January 4, 2011, 1:24 pmHello,
I have a few (4) of the collets for my Dillon bullet puller hammer tool. These have worn out. Is this a warranty item or expendable part like the decap pin? I would be willing to send them in for replacement with the other small items that have broken or worn out that need replacing. I still have the Dillon packaging that they came in.
Thanks
Jerry

Quote from Reloader on January 8, 2011, 12:05 pmJerry, If you have worn out collets I recommend stepping back and reviewing your reloading practices. Collets should last a lifetime.
1) make sure you lossen the cap so the last case will slide out easy and the next case can slide in easy. Clamp it down before extracting the bullet from the case. A properly tighten cap should not allow for any play while removing the bullet and no damage should happen to the collets.
2) if you are removing a lot of bullets from cases because of problems during the reloading process, then you should be concerned about every reload you have. If you are disassembling even 1 reload for every 100, then something is wrong with your reloading process. You could be exposed to an extreme safety problem. I recommend you find a skilled reloader and have them over for a coffee and review of your reloading practices. They might see things that will improve the quality of your process and thus greatly reduce any risks. After all it is your face behind your reloads.
load safe, have fun. /l
