Dillon XL650 alignment - frustration
Quote from Reloader on May 9, 2020, 11:22 pmHI all,
My XL650 started crushing primers and after a phone session with Dillon, they decided to send me a new indexer ring and an alignment tool. I can tweak the platform so that I get that sweet spot where the alignment tool goes into primer seater without binding. However, it all goes downhill when I tighten down the platform screws which brings me right back to the alignment tool binding on the platform.
I've tried everything I can think of including tightening the bolts evenly in various incremental steps or fully tightening one and then the other bolt. No matter what I do, the platform will always return to the same sour spot which causes the alignment tool to bind again and again.
As an aside, I'm thinking that alignment may not be the cause of my primer problems. I say that because with the machine fully assembled, when I push the handle to the forward position to see how the primer seater lines up with the shell plate - it is clearly off. I don't think platform alignment is going to fix this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Quote from Reloader on May 16, 2020, 2:09 pmI was crushing primers when I switched from 40 to 9. I could see the primer was not in the center of the shell plate so I figured either the shellplate was either too tight and not resting in the right place or the indexer block was off. I readjusted the bolt on the shellplate and when that didn’t fix it I moved the indexer block forward a touch and I was back in business.

Quote from Reloader on May 25, 2020, 2:29 pmI un-affectionately call my 650 "The Primer Crusher" there's little joy in the fact I feel vindicated with the introduction of the 750. This is Dillon admitting the 650 was a POS. I gave up a long ago priming or should I say trying to prime on the 650. My 650 has never been able to prime, hell it's barely able to process cases without crushing them. I have to keep more than a few decapping pins in stock to process brass. I find myself avoiding the 650 in favor of my ol' reliable Rock Crusher it must only crush rocks because it doesn't crush cases like the Dillon.
Dillon picked a good color for their presses "Democrat Blue" the dumborats don't work either.
