Do lemons exist?
Quote from Reloader on April 11, 2020, 9:55 pmOk, I've tried being real patient with my XL650 over the years but to no avail. I have had nothing but issues with every individual function be it indexing or priming. I've had issues with parts having poor threading or requiring some filing to fit. I've done the maintenance, read the forums, watched videos, looked at work-arounds and tried aftermarket parts. Still to this day I cannot get through a couple of hundred rounds of anything (9mm, 45ACP, 223) without some major screw up with the thing. Today I did 175 rounds, of which 103 are usable (new priming problem).
So thinking that perhaps it was some little boogaboo in there that was causing a cascading failure of some sort, I recently tore the whole thing down, cleaned and greased it all, put it back together (yes, I used the alignment tool) with replacement parts (just in case some spring or gizmo was worn), greased it, sacrificed a beer to it, and still the damnable thing is having issues. Actually, it's a whole new one (flipping primers) which hasn't happened before. I give up.....
I figure I got the lemon of the batch because I don't see anyone else having multiple issues being repeated over and over even from the initial setup and usage. Anybody else get a unit that was built on a Friday a week before Christmas because this thing has been quite the turd so far. Guess I need to stop trying and just send it back for them to "fix".

Quote from Reloader on April 13, 2020, 3:03 pmPrimer problems can be caused by a variety of things, all of which can be easily resolved over the phone if you are slightly mechanical.
First, check the primer seating assembly, make sure it is threaded snugly up into the underside of the platform.
Next, make sure the station 1 locator is adjusted to within .002-.004" of touching the case at station 2. This typically requires adjustment whenever you change case diameters.
The most common issue is case related. Lots of "commercial" cases are now being shipped with crimped primer pockets. If primers fail to seat, seat unevenly, or smear, this is almost always due to trying to seat a primer in a crimped case.

Quote from Reloader on May 25, 2020, 3:04 pmOh yeah!!! my 650 has been a POS since the first day I set it up I have never successfully primed on my 650. My 650 has been relegated to just processing brass and it does a poor job at that. My 650 crushes cases on a regular bases. I have to keep a dispenser pack of recapping pins for my die.
After all my years of feeling too stupid to have set the 650 up, I feel vindicated Dillon has finally admitted the 650 is a POS too .... gave up, threw in the towel, and dropped the 650 and came out with the 750.
Don't know about you but I'm not taking the Blue pill next time, I feel a Red, or Green Pill coming on.
