Early RL550 questions
Quote from Reloader on July 31, 2016, 3:14 amMy press is one of the early ones and does not have any fittings or ports to lube the linkage. What is the recommended lubrication for this press?
I noticed that the new presses have a shim under the primer feed and the linkage for the powder measure is different. If I order any replacement parts will I need to replace anything else?
When I bought mine they did not have the powder return linkage and I had to upgrade it. Besides that it is original.

Quote from Reloader on August 1, 2016, 4:26 pmUse 30 wt motor oil on the shaft, and bearing grease on the pivot pins. Check out the cleaning and lubrication videos at the bottom of our home page under "Resources".
Since you have updated the machine to have the current failsafe return linkage, all current parts will fit your older machine. The only exception is if you ever decide to add the electric case feeder, we will have to grind the right side of the frame slightly to accept it.

Quote from Reloader on August 25, 2016, 6:40 pmMy first press was a 450 that I got 30 years ago and I don't know how old it was then. Got it used. When years later I got a 550, I liked it so much I bought the parts to convert the 450 to a 550. Primer section didn't fit but a dremel fixed that. As far as lube, a needle oiler with 30 weight oil has always done the trick and it still will be loading shells many years after I'm gone.
