Failure to extract
Quote from Reloader on October 30, 2013, 7:03 pmI have been reloading 223 for a year now, or whenever I can find the powder. I ran across an older batch of 223 that will not extract unfired from the chamber. I ran them through the 223 case gauge, and measured the COL and they all seem to be in spec. However when I compared them to a factory round the shoulder appears to be different. Is this problem from not having my sizing die turned down enough?
Thanks Dillon!!!

Quote from Reloader on October 31, 2013, 4:10 pmFor use in a semi-automatic firearm, the sized 223 case/cartridge should drop down to flush with the bottom step of the case gage. It is possible that either a misadjusted size die-OR- excessive crimping can be the cause. Overcrimping will bulge out the shoulder enough to cause the case to bind as well. Overcrimping will "bubble" the shoulder, quite visibly.
