First post: primer feed issue on XL750
Quote from Boog on August 4, 2025, 8:11 pmWhen the primer slide moves back, it rarely picks up a primer. When it does, it almost always somehow pops it out onto the floor rather than putting it in the primer feed to be seated into the cartridge. I have disassembled and cleaned the priming mechanism twice with no improvement. The XL750 is new, with only ~ 700 rounds made so far before the issue. The primer never has worked flawlessly. Thanks in advance.

First, remove the operating rod from the side of the primer feed. Pull the machine handle down, and leave it down. Manually pull the primer slide fully to the rear, then allow it to return forward at a controlled rate. (Don't let go it the primer slide) Is there a primer in the cup? If yes, then move the bracket that holds the operating rod down 1/8". Install the op-rod and test it. Move the bracket down more if necessary until the op-rod moves the primer slide fully to the rear.
If it does not pick up a primer, then remove the primer feed housing, then take the primer slide off. Refer to page 49 in the manual, and measure the height of the cup & punch in the primer slide. As per the drawing on page 49, it should be 1.380-1.390". If necessary, use a padded clamp or vise to hold the cup & punch down while you retighten the set screw.

Quote from Boog on August 5, 2025, 8:53 pmThanks for the quick reply. I do have it picking up a dropped primer now, but the primer slide does not move forward far enough to align with the bottom of the shell plate, and does not rise up to seat the primer. It is catching on something about .13” too soon. And when I nudge it forward just slightly with my finger, it snaps into the correct position and will then rise up and seat the primer. Everything is very clean. Your suggestions will be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Quote from The Human Manual on August 5, 2025, 9:28 pmThere is a thin black steel shim plate underneath the primer slide. This is a wear surface to prevent wear on the frame. Remove this part, reattach the primer parts, and check the primer slide and see if slides completely forward. It could be this shim plate is slightly bent or warped. If it cycles properly without the shim plate, let us know.

Quote from Boog on August 5, 2025, 11:02 pmI removed the shim and it now cycles perfectly. The shim does appear to be very slightly bent, or just higher in the center.
Thanks

Quote from The Human Manual on August 5, 2025, 11:15 pmThen either phone or email us and request a replacement for a defective shim. #62329. Make clear it is a new unit, and has been finicky since the beginning.

Quote from Boog on August 6, 2025, 12:22 amThank you. Would it be OK to continue using it until I get the shim?
